In 2002, the IAEA General Conference adopted a resolution on Nuclear Knowledge Management, and it has been reiterated in subsequent years. The IAEA secretariat was urged to assist Member States, at their request, in preserving nuclear education and training in all areas of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes; to develop guidance and methodologies for planning, designing and implementing nuclear knowledge management programmes; to provide Member States with information resources on the peaceful use of nuclear energy; and to continue to develop tools and methods to capture, share, and preserve nuclear knowledge.

In the field of nuclear education and training, the IAEA have focused on academic curricula for nuclear education, networking among universities, and cyber platforms for education and training. The IAEA also supports the development of policies and strategies in nuclear education and provide consultancy services, "NKM Assist Visit" to address issues related to nuclear human resource development.

The mission of this Cyber Learning Platform for Nuclear Education and Training (CLP4NET) is to help Member States ensure high standards for nuclear education and training and establish a framework for E-Learning capacity. This is achieved through the use of information technology, in particular web based education and training to the maximum possible extent.

CLP4NET shall encourage senior professionals  to share experience and knowledge with young generation, in a way that can attract youth in view of alternative competing career options.

The CLP4NET initiative builds capacity and contributes to goals of sustainable development for Member States  by integrating available resources for education and training in synergy with existing IAEA and other educational establishments  in key areas of nuclear science and technology that can create better pubic awareness about benefits of nuclear technology and its applications for peaceful purposes.
